Although our church buildings are closed while we are in lockdown the work of the church goes on. We continue to worship and we continue care.
Our livestreamed worship and reflections are being watched and the comments we have received show how much they are appreciated and valued. We are keeping in touch with each other and helping to reduce loneliness and making sure that ‘Self-isolation’ does not mean ‘Social-isolation’.
But while our worship and work continue so do our bills. The churches are well supported by our regular congregations and by friends of our churches. Unfortunately however, some of our most important income has stopped. We can no longer let out our buildings, invite people to fundraising events, take a collection on Sunday mornings.
Clearly if we don’t have money coming in we can’t pay our bills. At the moment, along with some other parishes, none of our three churches is giving in full what we should be contributing to paying towards our clergy’s stipends, housing and training and other vital expenses in the life of the church. This means that at the diocesan level we are running out of money too, and if this continues expenditure would need to be cut in the next few months. That would mean cutting salaries and stipends, and making redundancies.
We all hope that we can get back to normal as soon as possible, and for even more important reasons than just staying afloat! But in the meantime we would really value donations, both that which you normally give week by week and also, if possible, extra to help meet the shortfall.
There are three things that you might be able to do …
- First, you could put aside money each week so that when we can get back together you can bring all the saved money.
- Second, you could write a cheque and post it, there are details of who the cheque should be made payable to below. You could then post it to Richard Jordan, Rawreth Rectory, Church Road, WICKFORD, SS11 8SH.
- Third you could make a donation by bank transfer or, for regular donations, a standing order. Again the details for each church are given below.

Many thanks for all the support that is given to the churches and for reading this far.
Please give it some thought, it is not right for everybody but if you can help it would be hugely appreciated.
